You can find someone's email on Facebook only if they chose to show it: open their profile, click About, then Contact and basic info. Each person decides who can see their email and phone number there (public, friends, or only themselves), and most keep them hidden. For a business, check the Page's About section and the website linked from it. Facebook doesn't offer any way to reveal a hidden email, and collecting addresses with scraping tools breaks Meta's terms.

If what you really need is someone's work email, Facebook is the wrong place to look: their LinkedIn profile and an email finder will get you further. Details below.

How to find an email on a Facebook profile

  1. Open the person's Facebook profile.
  2. Click About (below the cover photo).
  3. Click Contact and basic info.
  4. If they've shared an email with you, or with everyone, it's listed under contact info, often next to a phone number, a website and other social profiles.

What you see depends on the audience they chose for each item. Facebook lets people pick who sees their email, phone number, birthday and similar details, and these aren't public by default (Facebook Help). If you're not friends, you'll usually see nothing.

Also check the Intro on the profile: people sometimes link a personal website, a portfolio or an Instagram account, which may carry a contact address.

How to find an email on a Facebook Page (businesses)

Businesses want to be contacted, so their Pages are a better bet:

  1. Open the Facebook Page.
  2. Look at the Intro box on the Page, which often shows the email, phone and website.
  3. If it's not there, click About, then Contact and basic info (Page admins add their contact details in this section).

Not listed? Try these, in this order:

  • The website linked on the Page. Contact, About, Legal notice or Imprint pages usually list an address.
  • A Google search: "Business Name" email or "@businessdomain.com".
  • Messenger. Many businesses answer Page messages faster than email. Ask for the right address in one line.
  • Their Instagram business profile, which can show an Email contact button.

Domain WHOIS records rarely help anymore: most registrars redact owners' contact details.

When the email isn't there: what to do

For a personal contact (an old friend, a family member), send a Facebook message or a friend request with a short note, or ask a mutual friend. That's the respectful route, and usually the only one.

For a professional contact (a potential client, partner or candidate), go where people publish their work identity:

  1. Find the person on LinkedIn using their name and the employer shown on Facebook.
  2. Check their LinkedIn Contact info; connections can often see the email.
  3. Otherwise, use an email finder with their name and company or their LinkedIn URL. useArtemis's email finder returns a verified professional email, or nothing if it can't confirm one.

Our guide on how to find someone's email on LinkedIn goes through all seven methods, and if you're trying to reach an executive, see how to find a CEO's email address.

What doesn't work (or isn't allowed)

  • Searching Facebook by email address or phone number. Facebook switched this off in April 2018, after the feature was abused to scrape public profile information (Engadget).
  • "Facebook email extractor" tools and group member scrapers. Meta's Terms of Service state that you "may not access or collect data from our Products using automated means (without our prior permission)" (Meta Terms). Accounts using them get blocked, and in Europe, processing personal data collected this way raises GDPR issues.
  • Buying "Facebook user" email lists. You can't verify where the data came from or whether people agreed to be contacted, and sending to it damages your sender reputation.

If you send marketing emails to anyone you found through Facebook, the usual rules apply: in the US, CAN-SPAM (clear sender, honest subject line, postal address, working opt-out honored within 10 business days); in Europe, GDPR and national rules, which often require consent for emails to private individuals.

FAQ

Can you see someone's email on Facebook if they hid it?

No. If a person set their email to "Only me" or to friends and you're not their friend, Facebook won't show it, and no setting or tool on Facebook can reveal it. Ask them directly on Messenger instead.

How do I find the email address of a Facebook business Page?

Look at the Page's Intro box, then About > Contact and basic info. If no email is listed, check the website linked from the Page, search Google for the business name plus "email", or send a message through Messenger.

Can I find out who an email address belongs to on Facebook?

Not anymore. Facebook removed the ability to search for people by email address or phone number in April 2018. You can search Google for the address in quotes to see whether it's published anywhere.

Finding a publicly shared address isn't illegal, but sending marketing emails is regulated. Business-to-business outreach needs a clear sender, an opt-out and relevance to the person's job; emails to private individuals often require their prior consent, especially in Europe. Personal messages to someone you know aren't the issue.

What's the best way to get someone's work email instead?

Look them up on LinkedIn and use an email finder with their name and company or their profile URL; it returns an address checked against the company's mail server. Most tools offer a few free searches each month; see our list of free email finder tools.
