PhantomBuster is a cloud automation platform with more than 100 ready-made automations ("Phantoms") and workflows that extract, enrich and act on data from 15+ platforms, LinkedIn and Sales Navigator first, plus Google Maps, Instagram, Facebook and X. As of October 2026, its paid plans cost $69, $159 and $439 a month ($56, $128 and $352 billed annually), after a 14-day free trial; a free plan with 30 minutes of execution time a month remains afterwards, but exports are capped at 10 rows. It's excellent for building custom, scheduled lead-data pipelines, less so if you just want a simple tool to find leads and contact them by LinkedIn and email.

We tested PhantomBuster during its free trial in June 2024 and re-checked its plans, features and documentation in October 2026. Here's what it does, what changed, what it really costs, its pros and cons, and six PhantomBuster alternatives, including free ones.

What is PhantomBuster used for?

PhantomBuster (often searched as "Phantom Buster") is mostly used for lead generation. Each Phantom performs one task, and Workflows chain several Phantoms toward a goal. Typical uses:

  • Scraping: export a LinkedIn search, a Sales Navigator search or list, profile data, the people who engaged with a LinkedIn post, Google Maps listings or Instagram profiles to CSV or JSON.
  • Enrichment: add professional emails (with email credits), company data and 1,000+ data points such as job changes or recent activity, and run it on a schedule to keep lists fresh.
  • Intent signals: spot people who engaged with LinkedIn posts or show recent activity, so you contact warm leads rather than a cold database.
  • LinkedIn outreach: auto-connect, message sending, profile visits, likes and event invitations, with an AI writer that uses the scraped data to personalize messages (more on automating LinkedIn messages with AI), across several connected LinkedIn accounts.
  • Plumbing: push results to your CRM, use the API, or let AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT run automations through PhantomBuster's MCP server.

How PhantomBuster works

  1. Connect your accounts. For LinkedIn, PhantomBuster recommends its browser extension, which detects your LinkedIn session; you can also sign in with your LinkedIn email and password or paste your session cookie manually (guide).
  2. Pick a Phantom or Workflow, for example "Sales Navigator Search Export", and give it an input: a search URL, a list or a spreadsheet of profile URLs.
  3. Set the volume and schedule: how many profiles per launch and how often it runs.
  4. Launch and collect the results in the dashboard, as CSV/JSON, or in the tool it's connected to.

When we tested it in June 2024, setup was the easy part: each Phantom has a guided form and a tutorial. The harder part was planning around execution time and slots, and chaining several Phantoms into a full prospecting process.

What changed since 2024?

  • Plans renamed, prices unchanged. Starter, Pro and Team became Start, Grow and Scale, still at $69, $159 and $439 a month ($56, $128 and $352 billed annually).
  • Workspace pricing. Plans are no longer differentiated by users: up to 100 members share one pool of execution time, slots and credits.
  • More credit pools. On top of AI and email credits, plans now include URL finder credits, CAPTCHA-solving credits and storage.
  • A stricter free tier. After the 14-day trial, the workspace drops to a free plan with 30 minutes of execution a month and one slot, and both the trial and the free plan cap exports at 10 rows.
  • From scraping to "warm leads". PhantomBuster now leads with intent signals, AI-written LinkedIn messages, multi-account LinkedIn outreach and an MCP server for AI assistants.

How to read it:

  • Execution time is consumed while your Phantoms run. When it runs out, automations pause until the next reset or an upgrade; there are no automatic overage charges.
  • Slots are how many automations you can keep on your dashboard and run in parallel.
  • Credits reset every month and don't roll over. Email discovery uses one credit per attempt, even when no email is found, according to PhantomBuster's pricing guide.

For a solo user scraping a few Sales Navigator searches a week and finding emails, Start is usually enough. Scheduled enrichment of large lists or several LinkedIn accounts pushes you toward Grow.

Is PhantomBuster safe for LinkedIn?

PhantomBuster runs LinkedIn automations with your own LinkedIn session, and its automations let you set how many profiles to process per launch and how often. That keeps volumes human, but it doesn't remove the risk: LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits scraping and automation tools, and accounts that push too much activity can be restricted. Spread launches over the day, keep daily volumes modest and respect LinkedIn's weekly invitation limit.

PhantomBuster pros and cons

Pros

  • Huge library: 100+ automations and workflows across 15+ platforms, many for LinkedIn and Sales Navigator.
  • Runs in the cloud on a schedule, so your computer doesn't need to stay on.
  • Flexible: chain Phantoms, feed them spreadsheets, use the API or the MCP server.
  • Workspace pricing: up to 100 members share one plan, no per-seat fee.
  • Fresh data and intent signals rather than a static database.
  • 14-day trial without a credit card.

Cons

  • Hard-to-predict costs: execution hours, slots and several credit pools take time to understand.
  • Credits don't roll over, and email credits are used even when no email is found.
  • The free plan is for testing only: 30 minutes a month and 10-row exports.
  • Not an outreach suite: outreach automations focus on LinkedIn; for email sequences and a shared inbox you'll connect other tools.
  • Learning curve: building a full prospecting process means stitching several Phantoms together.

Verdict: is PhantomBuster worth it in 2026?

PhantomBuster is worth it if data is your bottleneck: you want to scrape LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, Google Maps or social platforms, enrich the results and refresh them on a schedule, and you're comfortable thinking in workflows. Few tools match its range.

If what you want is a list of leads with verified emails and a way to contact them on LinkedIn and email from the same place, PhantomBuster becomes one piece of a stack you have to assemble. An all-in-one prospecting tool, or a dedicated exporter for one-off Sales Navigator lists (see how to export leads from Sales Navigator), will be simpler and often cheaper.

1. useArtemis: leads, verified emails and LinkedIn + email outreach in one place

useArtemis is our own product, so keep that in mind. Where PhantomBuster gives you building blocks, useArtemis packages the most common prospecting workflow end to end:

  • Find leads: a LinkedIn and Sales Navigator scraper that imports searches and lists, Discover (a B2B lead database with verified emails), an email finder that finds and verifies professional emails, and AI enrichment, which adds AI-researched columns to your lead lists.
  • Contact them: multichannel sequences mixing LinkedIn steps (invitations, messages, profile visits, likes) and email steps from Gmail, Outlook or any SMTP/IMAP mailbox, with AI-written personalized messages, safe sending limits and a human-like pace.
  • Handle replies: a unified inbox for LinkedIn and email, plus automatic AI replies on the Scale plan and up.

Pricing as of October 2026, billed monthly: Starter $69 (2 LinkedIn accounts, 500 verified emails, 2,500 Discover leads), Scale $159 (5 accounts, 1,500 emails, 5,000 leads, automatic AI replies), Agency $399 (10 accounts, 10,000 emails, 100,000 leads). Unlike PhantomBuster's monthly credits, useArtemis credits roll over. There's no free trial or free plan, and it doesn't scrape Google Maps or Instagram: it's built for B2B prospecting on LinkedIn and email.

2. Evaboot: the simplest way to export Sales Navigator

If most of your Phantoms were Sales Navigator exports, Evaboot does that one job well. It's a Chrome extension that exports a Sales Navigator search or list (up to LinkedIn's cap of 2,500 leads or 1,000 companies per search), cleans names and company data, and finds and verifies emails. Pricing is one plan by volume: $29 a month for 400 credits, $49 for 1,000 and $99 for 3,000, where one exported lead costs one credit with the email included. Credits roll over while you stay subscribed, and seats are unlimited. You need your own Sales Navigator subscription. Our guide to scraping Sales Navigator compares it with the other options.

3. Apify: a scraper for (almost) any website

Apify is the most flexible PhantomBuster alternative for raw scraping. Its store lists more than 85,000 "Actors", ready-made scrapers built mostly by third-party developers, including many for LinkedIn profiles and Sales Navigator searches, Google Maps and social networks, plus an SDK to build your own. The free plan includes $5 of platform usage a month with no credit card; Starter costs $19 a month ($17 billed annually) and Scale $199. Store Actors are often billed per result on top of that. It's more technical than PhantomBuster, and the quality of community Actors varies, so test before you scale.

4. Clay: enrichment and research workflows

Clay is a spreadsheet that pulls data from more than 150 providers, runs waterfall enrichment and uses an AI agent (Claygent) to research companies and people. It doesn't scrape LinkedIn for you: you bring a list (or import one) and Clay enriches it. The free plan includes 500 actions and 100 data credits a month with tables of up to 200 rows; Launch starts at $185 a month ($167 billed annually) and adds phone enrichment, signals and a sequencer. It's the pick if PhantomBuster's enrichment Phantoms were your main use and you want far more data sources.

5. Make (or Zapier): automation between your apps

If you used PhantomBuster mostly to move data, for example from a spreadsheet to your CRM on a schedule, a workflow tool may be enough. Make has a free plan with 1,000 credits a month, and Core costs $10.59 a month ($9 billed annually) for 10,000 credits; it connects 3,500+ apps and now includes AI agents. Zapier has a free plan with 100 tasks a month and Professional from $29.99 a month ($19.99 billed yearly). Neither scrapes LinkedIn natively: they connect the tools that do.

6. Apollo.io: leads with emails, no scraping needed

If you scraped LinkedIn only to get names and emails, a B2B database can skip the scraping step. Apollo.io has a free plan (75 credits a month, 2 sequences), and Basic costs $65 per seat per month ($49 billed annually) with 2,500 credits a month. One email costs one credit, a phone number eight, and credits don't roll over. The trade-off: database records are less fresh than a live LinkedIn scrape. See our Apollo.io review.

What happened to TexAu and Captain Data?

Two tools that used to appear in every "PhantomBuster alternatives" list have changed course. TexAu relaunched as a Clay-style enrichment spreadsheet for agencies and SaaS teams, with pay-on-match credits from $99 a month ($79 billed yearly). Captain Data became an API that sells people and company data to developers and AI products, from €150 a month for 2,500 credits. Neither is a no-code LinkedIn automation tool anymore.

How to choose a PhantomBuster alternative

  • You export Sales Navigator lists now and then: Evaboot.
  • You want to find leads and contact them on LinkedIn and email without stitching tools together: useArtemis.
  • You scrape all kinds of websites and can handle some setup: Apify.
  • You enrich and research lists more than you scrape: Clay.
  • You need to connect apps on a schedule: Make or Zapier.
  • You just need contacts with emails: Apollo.io, or a dedicated email finder.

FAQ

Is PhantomBuster free?

Partly. PhantomBuster offers a 14-day free trial without a credit card (2 hours of execution time, 50 email credits, 1,000 AI credits), after which your workspace moves to a free plan with 30 minutes of execution time a month and one automation slot. On both, exports are limited to 10 rows, so real use requires a paid plan from $69 a month ($56 billed annually).

What is the best free alternative to PhantomBuster?

It depends on what you used PhantomBuster for. To scrape websites, Apify has a free plan with $5 of usage a month. To move data between apps, Make (1,000 credits a month) and Zapier (100 tasks a month) are free to start. For enrichment, Clay's free plan includes 500 actions and 100 data credits a month, and for B2B contacts without scraping, Apollo.io has a free plan. None of them is a free LinkedIn automation tool: for LinkedIn outreach at any real volume, expect to pay.

How much does PhantomBuster cost?

As of October 2026, PhantomBuster's Start plan costs $69 a month, Grow $159 and Scale $439, or $56, $128 and $352 a month billed annually (20% off). Plans differ by execution time (20, 80 or 300 hours a month), automation slots and credits, and each plan covers a whole workspace of up to 100 members.

Does PhantomBuster have an MCP server?

Yes. Every PhantomBuster plan, including the trial, includes an MCP server, so AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT can launch and use your PhantomBuster automations.

Can PhantomBuster find email addresses?

Yes, with email credits: 500 a month on Start, 2,500 on Grow and 10,000 on Scale. A credit is used for each lookup attempt, whether or not an email is found. If emails are your main need, compare that cost with a dedicated email finder that only charges for verified results.
